Check out the house construction going on here! We've got straw, sticks and bricks. Doesn't really matter if you line the sticks up or just toss them on there, they aren't going to save that little pig from the big, bad wolf!

Same toys, different purposes
Blocks are fun at any age! It is interesting to see how different ages use the same toys in different ways. The kids on the left are in our younger class and they are all about lining the blocks up to make a "huge road." They will often go all the way down the hallway! The kids on the right are in our older class. They tend to go for height and prefer to make structures. On this day, they brought over the stuffed animals are were building homes for them. Either way, both classes are learning to cooperate and negotiate towards a common goal!

Variety is important
Having choices is one of the exciting parts of preschool! Every day is different. The toys are different, the art projects are different, the songs and activities are different - but there is comfort in the environment. We may change what we do every day, but we are consistent in how and why we do things. The kids know what to expect from us which makes them feel safe - safe to explore new options and safe to try new things. These are the things that make preschool fun and all the while the kids are growing and learning and stretching their wings!

Playdough fun
This little cutie is cooking up a whole bakery of items - cookies, muffins, pizza dough...all kinds of yummy treats! Playdough is a wonderful thing. Not only does it provide tons of fun, it stretches the imagination, increases hand and finger strength and requires cooperation and sharing. Even the teachers love to sit down with the kids and play with the playdough!

Rescue the Bears!
Last week was Bear Week in the Threes Class. Since these guys love to rescue things - just like a fireman or policeman or super heroes - we decided we'd better rescue these poor bears! The little bears somehow managed to get themselves frozen into blocks of ice. Thankfully these two guys helped rescue them with droppers full of warm water! Every time a bear was set free, they got so excited! We lined the rescued bears up along the shelf and counted them. Thank goodness for their perseverance. :)

Brought to you by the letter "D"
Every Tuesday in the Pre-k class is Sharing Day. Sometimes the kids get to choose what to bring and sometimes the calendar lists a category. On this Tuesday, the kids were to bring something that starts with the Letter 'D' since it was 'D' week. We had dogs, dinosaurs and a Pokémon card with a 'D' name. When we went to play in the Big Room, a few of the kids decided to build houses for their critters. Apparently even mini, stuffed dinosaurs need a lot of room! :)

Spinning gears
Magnetic gears are so much fun to twist and spin! And you don't need a fridge door to use them - just take a metal drip pan or cookie sheet and they work just as well. :)

Lego Creation
This is the halfway point in building this Lego creation. By the time he was done, it was twice as elaborate - and can you guess what it is? A mouse house! This little guy spent most of his morning working on getting it "just right" for the mouse. I love it when kids get so into what they are creating!

Friendly, Silly Monsters
Aren't these the cutest monsters you've seen all day?! These were made by our Pre-k class during Monster Week. We read Monster Math and then created our own monsters from kitchen scrubby sponges! The kids added their own personalities to their creations and counted out their pieces. It was a fun way to end the week!

Spin Art
What should you do with that old record player you have gathering dust in the garage?? Well at preschool, we use it for Spin Art! With round paper you can slip onto the center, the kids use markers to make rainbows of colors go around and around. It's quite fun to watch the paper change colors!

Cute little chicks
I love this photo because it shows how much variety there can be in one little chick project! Some are fluffier than others, some are glue-ier than others but they are all cute! This is a great project for direction following and the fine motor skills of using glue and adding all the pieces.
Chicks are a part of Farm Week for our 3s class. Peep, peep!

Bear Experts
At the end of Bear Week, we made little books labeling each type of bear we learned about and then the kids drew what they would find near the bears (for example: caves, salmon, cubs, berries for a brown bear). We wrote 3 things about each bear and then colored each page. You can see how hard these two worked on their books!

Friendly Bears
Check out these cuties in their bear hats! They are lining up to go home after a busy morning of play and learning. Note the white buckets that they each have to carry home their artwork. We use them instead of backpacks. The kids get to decorate their buckets with stickers or paint so they can easily recognize which one is theirs. Those buckets are pretty handy!

The "Big Room"
On cold and/or rainy days we go in the "Big Room" to play towards the end of the day. Lots of fun things to do in there from airplane teeter-totter and hula-hoops to sliding and balancing! It's a great place to run around and get your wiggles out! :)

Artist at work!
It takes concentration to be sure you get all the right spots covered in paint! This is a kitty who will have some mittens on pretty soon for "Three Little Kittens Who Lost Their Mittens."

Bear caves
These 3 girls had so much fun making caves for their mama bear and her cubs. The bears are all tucked in, warm and safe from the cold outside!
Messy fingers!
Sometimes fingers can get a little messy when you're serious about making "muddy pigs" during farm week!

We ended September with this fun apple project in our pre-kindergarten class. Can you guess what we "repurposed" to make the apple?? A sock! :)
